Yesterday, Spokane City Council joined Bellingham and Seattle in unanimously declaring their opposition to the TPP.
While “the citizens of Spokane strongly support international trade when fair rules of trade are in place and seek to be an active participant in trading with other nations,” the resolution declared that Spokane City Council could not support a trade agreement like TPP that threatens their abilities to govern locally, while putting workers, the environment, and public health at risk.
As the Seattle Times noted in an article today, “As difficult as it may be for Washington state’s business and political establishment to grasp, TPP is in big trouble.” Opposition to the TPP is growing locally and nationally.
Thank you Spokane City Council for listening to your constituents and standing up for them. We hope that our delegation to U.S. Congress will do the same.
